At Kansas City Sailing we teach all levels of sailors from those who have never been on a sailboat to those who have sailed their whole lives. We offer group and private lessons.

American Sailing Association (ASA)
Certification Courses at Perry Yacht Club

Through our close affiliation with Perry Yacht Club (PYC) we are able to offer American Sailing Association (ASA) certification at the following levels:Spinnaker Boat

Basic Keelboat (101) Learn to sail a boat of about 20 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters.

Basic Coastal Cruising (103) Learn to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in moderate winds and sea conditions.

Bareboat Chartering (104) An advanced cruising Standard for individuals with cruising experience. The individual can act as skipper or crew of a 30 to 50 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters. Includes knowledge and maintenance of boat systems.Instruction on the dock

Coastal Navigation (105) Learn navigational theory and techniques necessary to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. This course is taught once a year, primarily in the classroom, during the month of March.

Advanced Coastal Cruising (106) Learn to safely act as skipper and crew of a sailing vessel about 30 to 50 feet in length during daytime and nighttime, coastal and inland water, in any weather.

Basic Small Boat Sailing (110) Learn to sail a centerboard or multihull sailboat in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision.

Private Sailing Instruction

We offer private individualized sail instruction throughout the year. This is a popular option for couples and families who wish to learn together. For more information regarding private instruction please contact our shop.

Free Sailing, Racing, Rigging, and Maintenance Clinics

In addition to offering a full curriculum of sailing courses we also offer free clinics to the sailing community. Topics have included: "Racing Strategies," "Wood and Fiberglass Maintenance," "Sail Trim," "Rope, Knot Tying, and Splicing," and "Winch Maintenance."
